Caring plays a decisive role for the developmentof the nursing profession. The purpose of this article is to clarifythe meaning of caring using the method of concept analysis. The technique advocated by Walker and Avant (1995) is used to analyze this concept. This paper seeks to (1) provide a review of the conceptual definitions of caring, (2) provide examples of caring, (3) delineate the critical attributes of caring, (4) explore the antecedents and consequences of this concept, and (5) explore the empirical referents of caring. Finally, through this process of concept analysis, we hope to make nurses understand the significance of caring in the nursing profession, and apply it in daily life, including caring for self, colleagues, patient, and family. |
