In the opinion of TCM, the predisposing causes of rheumatoid arthritis include coldness, coolness, damp-heat, toxin, overwork, internal or external injuries, postpartum and incoordination of seven emotions. The major factors of rheumatoid arthritis are insufficiency of natural endowment, qi-blood deficiency and liver-kidney depletion combined with wind cold and damp heat attack. Pathological mechanism of this disease can be described as cold deficiency, damp heat, long-term stasis and changes. The clinical symptoms can be divided into the active stage and the remission stage. During the active stage, the clinical manifestations include acute exacerbation, chronic action and recurrence. |
