In 1986, WHO suggested reorientation of health service as one of the most important strategies in Ottawa Charter. After that, some countries in Europe started to develop health promoting hospitals (HPH). What is more, they formed networks in order to keep on developing it. There had had a great number of national/regional networks until 2006. Taiwan implemented the first healthy hospital accreditation in Taipei in 2002. It than became the prototype of the development of health promoting hospitals in Taiwan. However, there are currently insufficient evidence-based studies available, and the notion of health promoting hospitals still remains unclear in Taiwan. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to explore the process of the development of health promoting hospitals, the current situation of the development, and strategies and standards of HPH in Europe and comparing them with those in Taiwan. The author will make suggestions, expecting that experience in Europe can be a useful reference for Taiwan and facilitate more meaningful and sustainable development in Taiwan. |
