General description: This research was about improving digestion by combining therapy of herb plaster moxibution and acupuncture. The digestive function was evaluated by measuring the residual volume of stomach. Objective: The patient was a five years old girl who admitted our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit because of hypoxic encephalopathy. She was consulted by Chinese medicine due to poor digestive function. The NG tube feeding volume was 100ml per day but the residual volume was more than 250ml. Methods: Yuan hu, Bai jiezi ,Xi xin, Gan sui were drying and mode to powder, then were mixed well with the same weight. All of the fine powder were made to pill preparation and pills were soften and wet with distilled water or glycerin before patch to acupoints. Plaster therapy and acupuncture on Acupoints such as ST36, ST37, ST39, SP6, SP7, SP9. Result: After the herb plaster moxibution, the residual volume of stomach declined to less than 100ml. However, we couldn’t decrease the residual volume to zero only by herb plaster moxibution. Therefore, we treated her acupuncture before herb plaster moxibution. After three treatments, she regained the digestive function and had 0ml residual volume of stomach under 180ml feeding volume per day. Commentary: Plaster therapy on acupoints is a good choice for Chinese medicine doctors to help patients who has problems in digestive function. Combining plaster therapy and acupuncture has better result than using plaster therapy alone. |
