In Japan, there are 9,200 hospitals. Japan Council for Quality Health Care was established by the Ministry of Health, and Welfare, Japan Medical Association and so on in 1995. The Hospital accreditation program was started as the third-party system in 1997. 1,340 hospitals are surveyed and 1,076 hospitals are accredited (accreditation rate; 80.30%) in 2003. The first time pass rate was 30%. The characteristics of Japan hospital accreditation are fee-basis and self-applied as same as US, Canada and Australia. It divided into medical, administration, and nursing three groups at on-site survey process. JCQHC surveyors are volunteer physicians, nurses and administrators who are qualified and screened by the Surveyor Training and Education Committee. The results of the hospital tied on the health insurance in JCQHC on April, 2002. Its summaries and scores are published on the website and documented in public. Those are useful to patients when they go to hospitals. |
