This study regards serious leisure as a personal characteristic andexplores its relationship to situational involvement and flow experience, whilstalso exploring the mediating and moderating effect of situational involvement.A convenience sample was employed for the study with 283 questionnairescollected from divers in the Kenting .Sarea. Structural equation modeling (SEM)was employed to analyze the diver’s’ responses and construct the correlationbetween the different variables. The findings of the study revealed that thoserecreationists exhibiting significant serious leisure characteristics also possessedincreased levels of situational involvement and flow experience, whileWhilstrecreationists with higher levels of situational involvement were found to possessincreased flow experience. Situational involvement was also found to mediateand moderate the relationship between the other two variables. WherebyTtheinfluence of serious leisure characteristics on flow experience is mediatedthrough situational involvement, with the level of influence being directly relatedto the level of situational involvement. The findings of this study not only havemanagerial implications but also provide suggestions for future research. |
