Background: Evidence-based nursing (EBN) is an essential issue for improving quality of care. Enhancing the competence of EBN is the foundation of implementing evidence-based practice. However, little study investigated the effectiveness of the EBN training program.Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an EBN training program on nurses' knowledge, attitude, and behavior, and to explore whether the effectiveness varied with nurses' demographic characteristics. Methods: The study was a pretest-posttest research design. Seventy-two nurses received an EBN training program with 18 hours classes, practicum, and 9 hours presentation. The EBN knowledge, attitude, and behavior were measured with a questionnaire before and after implementing the training program. The paired-t statistics was used to analyze the effectiveness of the training program. Results: The posttest score of EBN behavior was significantly higher than the score of pretest (t=7.17, p<.001). There was no significant difference in EBN knowledge score (t=1.25, p=.22) and attitude scores (t=0.51, p=.61) between pretest and posttest. However, the posttest score of EBN knowledge in nurses at the age of 31-35 years, 6-10 years of work experience, bachelor degree, and non-administrator were significantly higher than the score of pretest. There was no significant difference in EBN behavior between pre and post test in nurses of or younger than 30 years old, and with work experience less than 5 years. Conclusions: The EBN training program improved nurses' evidence-based nursing behavior. The content of this program can be a reference for designing a systematic training program of other institutes. |
