The primary purpose of this study was to examine the degree of anxiety of the primary caregiver of patients of head injury. The subject of study was the primary caregiver of patients of medium and serious head injury at the neurological surgery of a medical center in the east part of Taipei, while instruction of hygiene education manual was employed as an intervention measure, and State Anxiety Inventory was used to investigate the impact on anxiety status of the primary caregiver for patients of head injury. The research results revealed that the average score of pre-test scenario anxiety one week after among 34 individuals of experiment and control groups were 58.29±9.75 and 55.73±10.96, respectively. The difference between pre-test and post-test for scenario anxiety of the experiment group was 22.68±10.87 (p<.01), while the difference of the average score between pre-test and post-test for scenario anxiety was 11.44±11.37 (p<.01). In addition, the average score of pre-test knowledge for the experiment group was 15.56±2.69, while it was 15.15±2.42 for the control group. Therefore, the score difference between pre-test and post-test for the experiment group was 4.23±2.57 (p<.01), while it was 1.05±2.42 (p<.01) for the control group. The statistical analysis of pre- and post-test results indicated that if hygiene education manual can be used, it can prominently reduce the anxiety of the primary caregiver and increase related knowledge. Furthermore, hygiene education manual can also be used as the reference tool for nursing staff to provide nursing evaluation and measures for the primary caregiver who takes care of patients of head injury, helping to enhance their physical and mental health. |
