Although few in number, female physical education teachers still play an important role in physical education at the college level. Nevertheless, in recent quantitative studies based on Seeman's (1959) research, researchers tend to neglect the phenomenon of organizational alienation of female college physical education teachers from 'the experience of the female'. The purpose of this paper was to analyze the experience and reasons for this organizational alienation through in-depth interviews. The subjects of this study were five female PE teachers. Through data analysis, no particular modes or patterns were found to cause this organizational alienation. The main reasons attributing to it were the lack of opportunity for expressing themselves and for communicating with others in the PE field. The development of female college physical education teachers was thus pigeonholed and they gradually tore themselves apart from physical education organizations without even noticing. |
