With the growth of Taiwanese industry, research concerning organizational behavior in Taiwan has not only expanded in quantity, but also in quality. Surprisingly, little work has been done scrutinizing past investigations in order to make reference for future studies. Therefore, the strengths and weaknesses of organizational behavior research in Taiwan remain unclear. We did not know what kind of knowledge has been accumulated and what kind of topics still remain unexplored. Moreover, innovations in theories and methods are vaguely understood. In order to compensate for these limitations, this article attempts an analysis of research of organizational behavior in Taiwan from 1981 to 2001. The research topics, backgrounds, methods, and results would be reviewed, and possible deficiencies and shortcomings exposed to offer a basis for future improvements. Future environmental changes would also be anticipated to enlighten the field of research topics that might enrich our understanding of the Taiwanese and Chinese organizational behaviors, and perhaps contributing to organizational behavior studies in general. |
