The purposes of this qualitative study are to find out the 10 most frequently used standards for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) nursing skills in Taiwan, and to draft the standard protocol for TCM nursing skills. A total of 26 nurses working in Chinese medicine Clinics at various hospitals in Taiwan were invited to participate in focus groups. The 10 most frequently used standards for TCM nursing skills are: oral administration of Chinese medication, therapeutic cupping care, preparation prior to acupuncture, acupuncture needle withdrawal care, electracupuncture care, care for moxibustion with warming needle, therapeutic moxibustion care, care infrared therapy, topical medicine application, and humidifying and bathing methods. The Delphi method by interviewing seven experts is used to evaluate and revise these ten TCM nursing skill standards. After two data-gathering rounds of Delphi survey, the draft of Taiwan Nursing Skill Standards Manual for Traditional Chinese Medicine was completed. The manual not only can help nurses working in TCM be more acquainted with TCM nursing skills, but also serve as nursing educational material in the future, in order to improve the quality of TCM nursing. |
