Loss of nursing staff is the most significant problem in our nursing department. Such staff turnover seriously impacts the patients and the quality of nursing care. The loss of nurses frequently imposes extra recruiting tasks on other employees in the nursing department. This project was designed to increase the efficiency of recruiting and to reduce the amount of working hours per nurse. We created a flow chart and quality control methods to develop new standard procedures for a recruiting system. Statistical data gathered from 2005/08 to 2005/11 revealed that, after implementing the new system, recruiting tasks had been abridged from eighteen to fourteen items. Time spent collecting and analyzing personnel resumes was reduced from 68 to 8 minutes. The average time per interview dropped from 500 to 200 minutes. The results showed that this project saved 6 hours from the total time spent on recruiting. Moreover, the efficiency of nursing staff management was improved using the new flow chart and recruiting system. |
