The purpose of this study was to develop and test a Need Assessment Scale for residents in a veteran’s village. There were two stages involved. Stage one saw the researchers utilizing nine social systems to assess community health, as a frame for the scale, to draft the initial scale with 41 items. The content validity index was 89%. Stage two tested the validity and reliability of the 41-item scale. The study subjects were sampled from the residents in a veteran’s village in southern Taiwan. The study adopted cluster random sampling and collected data by structured questionnaire interview of the sampled residents. A total of 173 questionnaires were effectively completed. The completion rate was 92.5%. The results of this study revealed that a Need Assessment Scale for residents in a veteran’s village had good validity and reliability. It was an accepted scale used to assess the needs of the residents in a veteran’s village and, in the future, could provide a reference for developing a Need Assessment Scale for residents in a general community. |
