It was a great impact on the caregiver, whose daughter with cerebral paralysis got aspiratory pneumonia with complication of respiratory failure because of suffocation during feeding and needed long-term reliance on a ventilator. Using Roy’s adaptation model to assess the mother’s emotional response and adaptive process, the author collected data during interaction with the mother by interview, observation, and medical history collection. The findings showed the mother’s emotional response of changing sleep pattern, anxiety, guilty, and conflict of parental role of the mother when her daughter was diagnosed with respiratory failure and ventilator dependence. The author provided appropriate care based on the child’s reactions and needs and accompanied with the mother through the adaptation period. |
