Immigration has been a common phenomenon in Taiwan with the transition of global economic environment and population constitution in Taiwan. The purpose of this study was to examine the health promoting behaviors among the new immigrant women when facing different environments and life styles. Eighty-one 20-40 years old new immigrant women from northern Taiwan who were currently not pregnant or not within six month of postpartum were selected Research instruments collected personal information and measurements of adult health promoting behaviors, including six dimensions on health behaviors, nutrition status, exercise, stress management, and so on. The results showed that 54.3% for new immigrant women have never taken examination of pap smear. Moreover, on average, they scored ess than 1 in nine out of forty health promoting behavior items, especially in exercise and health responsibility behaviors. Indonesian women had higher overall as well as most individual scores than women from other countries. Women from China had medium scores while women from Vietnam scored the least among all. Results of this study provide health-care providers with references to design better health promoting activities among new immigrant women. |
