This proposal is designed to increase the completeness of preparation needed prior to transporting patients to the operation theater. Previous data showed that the percentage of patients fully prepared to be transported to the operation theater was only 80.3%, with an additional delay of 8.56 minutes on average to correct and finalize patients’ information. This incompleteness can be corrected through two means: 1) the constitution of a standard operation flowchart for transporting patients to and from the operating theater and 2) the use of computerized systems to deliver information and additional messages. Following these methods, the frequency of complete preparation increased from 80.3% to 97.7%, and the average delay decreased from 8.56 minutes to 4.26 minutes. Our results proved the proposed methods effective in increasing the completeness of preparation for transporting patients to the operation theater. The use of standardized operation flowchart and computerized systems not only decreased the operation theater staffs’chance of making errors or forgetting information, but at the same time increased the quality of nursing care as well as patients’ safety. |
