The purpose of this study was to develop an aerobic exercise training protocol and educational manual to reduce cancer related fatigue during cancer therapy. Quasi-experimental design was used to examine the effects of the protocol. The sample consisted of twenty-two patients who received radiotherapy alone or radiotherapy combined low dose chemotherapy the first time. The outcome variables were measured 3 times a week during the intervention period by a Winningham Aerobic Interval Training Scale and Rate of Perceived Exertion; RPE. Hemoglobin and body weight were also measured. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, paired t-test, Spearman’s rho, and repeated measures ANOVA. The results showed that: (1) the exertion of aerobic exercise training protocol was not found; (2) hemoglobin decreased in the third week; (3) body weight increased in the second week; and (4) subjects’ knowledge of cancer related fatigue increased after receiving the education program. |
