The concept of the health related quality of life (HRQL) has been commonly used as a screening and outcome measure. In general, patients with mental illnesses often have lower quality of life than those of general populations. The aims of this article were to review the factors associated with the quality of life of schizophrenic patients and propose possible strategies that can improve patients’ abilities to manage medication side effects and decrease perception of being stigmatized, and provide patients with better rehabilitation programs. Healthcare providers are encouraged to use holistic care approach to improve the quality of life of schizophrenic patients. |
