The purposes of this study were to examine health-related quality of life (QOL) of knee osteoarthritis (OA), and to investigate its association with individual characteristics and treatment factors. A cross-sectional survey design with a purposive sample of 96 knee OA patients was taken from the outpatient unit at a medical center in northern Taiwan. The Outcome Measurement Instrument for quantifying the effectiveness of knee OA treatment was used to measure knee OA health-related QOL. Results of multiple regression showed that pain duration, treatment conditions (operation, medicine), and working status were significantly associated with health-related QOL (R2 = 0.205). Health-related QOL was inversely associated with working status, operative treatment, and long duration of pain. The pain duration could predict the pain level in knee OA (R2 = 0.08). The pain duration and X-ray grade could predict the ability of daily living and symptoms of knee OA (R2 = 0.193). The pain duration and X-ray grade could predict the mobility function (R2 = 0.198). The working status and X-ray grade could predict the emotion function (R2 = 0.12). The marriage status could predict social function. (R2 = 0.063). |
