The phenomenological method study was conducted to explore the life experiences of children who underwent the Chi-Chi earthquake disaster. . Fourteen children who lived in the earthquake disaster area in central Taiwan were interviewed by a semi-structured interview guide. The interview was audio-taped and transcribed verbatim. Data was analyzed by Colaizzi's phenomenological method (1978). The essential structure of the life experience of children after the earthquake was 'physical, mental and spiritual suffering.' It involved three main themes: 1. overarching changed, 2. immense impact, and 3. facing facts. The result of this study can serve as a guidance for health care professionals in promoting the health and well-being of children who have experienced major disaster. |
