Decreasing the Occurrence of Nursing Injuries from Surgical Instruments

本專案旨在降低手術過程中護理人員尖銳物損傷發生率。本院2008-2010年手術室尖銳物損傷平均發生率為14.11%，2011年上升至33.33%，居全院17個通報單位第一名。經探討及原因分析確立主要問題為：術中無尖銳物操作規範、護理人員專業知識不足、缺乏在職教育、無稽核制度。針對其問題提出改善對策：制定相關規範、標準作業、稽核制度及在職教育訓練。實施解決對策後測試認知結果提升為96.61%，實地查核完整率提升為91.51%，大幅提升手術室護理人員對於預防及操作尖銳物之認知態度。

This project aims to decrease the occurrence of nursing injuries caused by surgical instruments during operations. The average injury rate due to improper handling of sharp instruments for nurses in the operating room from 2008 to 2010 was 14.11 %; however, it increased to 33.33% in 2011, the highest among the 17 departments of the hospital. Through exploration and analysis of the potential causes of this result, the following problems were identified: lack of operational standards of sharp instruments, lack of knowledge in handling sharp instruments, and lack of a monitoring system. Strategies for improvement included establishing sharp instrument handling-related regulations and standards, setting up a monitoring system, and nursing in-service training. After implementation of all of the mentioned strategies, the awareness rate increased to 96.61% and the completion rate of auditing on the unit was 91.51%. The nurses' awareness in preventing injuries and properly handling sharp instruments in the operating room largely improved.
