The Emerges of Paradigms in the Theories of Mass Communication

大眾傳播理論和其他社會科學理論一樣，都有其理論典範可以依循，本文即嘗試將這些典範與個別的大眾傳播理論發展背景銜接起來，從最基本的結構功能論、衝突理論、符號互動論、和批判理論等幾個影響社會科學發展的重要理論典範出發，找出過去數十年大眾傳播理論發展歷程中各個重要大傳理論與這些社會科學理論典範的接循。從這種思考方式，可以發現過去數十年的大眾傳播理論大都是以結構功能論為基礎的實證研究為主流，至於符號互動論和現象學等則似以人際傳播和組織傳播為主，而衝突理論和批判理論則是近年來才引進大眾傳播理論的研究領域，以求突破過去微觀的侷限。大眾傳播理論在過去數十年的發展歷程，概都隨著時代大環境的不同而有不同的理論典範出現，其目的無非是嘗試透過大眾傳播理論的探究，尋找出解決當時傳播問題的答案。但是由於學術發展歷程錯綜複雜，一般學子在研讀這些理論時，常常無法窺其堂奧，而且坊間的教科書也只是將各個理論個別陳述，使得傳播學子只知個別知識，卻掌握不到整個大眾傳播理論的精髓所在，誠為憾事。有見於此，本文即嘗試把這些理論典範發展歷程做一個來龍去脈的介紹，讓學子們可以藉此去扣大眾傳播理論的門。

Similiar to other social sciences disciplines, the theories of mass communication have origins in the paradigms such as structural functionalism, conflict theories, symbolic interactionism, phenomenology, and critical school. The major purpose of the paper is to integrate the mass communication theories with the above paradigms to lead the communication students to the tracks of the process of theoretical development. According to sucha meta-analysis, most mass communication theories base on the functional approach while recently shifting to the critical schools.
