The progression of leadership moves from traditional and authori¬tarian to more participative and empowering. Nevertheless, this evolu¬tionary progression of leadership was not entirely adequate to meet the challenges of the global knowledge-based environment of contemporary organizations. Consequently, self-leadership has emerged. Self-leadership theory can be described as the ‘process of influencing oneself 'as opposed to the influence of leaders over followers. Self-leadership can lead to en¬hanced individual and organizational performance. Individuals who re¬ceived the thought self-leadership training experienced increased mental performance, positive enthusiasm, job satisfaction, self-efficacy. The pur¬poses of this paper include: (1)to understand the concept development of self-leadership; (2) to understand the present situation of self-leadership; (3)to understand the future prospective of self-leadership. |
