This study aimed to understand the relationship between primary school counselors’work pressure and professional commitment. The population were school counselors of the 101 school year. The subjects were chosen by adopting the method of Stratified Random Sampling. A total of 160 questionnaires were given and 148 ones were returned. The valid return rate was 92.5%. The returned data was analyzed statistically through descriptive statistic, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation results, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. According to the research, the conclusions were as following: 1. In Pingtung County, the work stress that elementary school counselors perceived was moderate, with a highest aspect in "participation in decision making". 2. The lack of counseling resources, difficulties in communication with parents is the main sources of stress that elementary school counselors had in Pingtung County. 3. In Pingtung County, school counselors’professional commitment was high recognition, in which "professional identity" aspect is the best. 4. Excessive workload, working too hard is a major response factor of professional commitment that elementary school counselors had in Pingtung County. 5. In Pingtung County, elementary school male counselors, younger, bachelor degree graduates and work less seniority perceived higher work pressure. 6. In Pingtung County, under 45 years old counselors, with 6-10 years of service endorse more professional commitment more. 7. In Pingtung County, there is negative correlation between work stress and professional commitment of elementary school counselors. 8. In Pingtung County, the work pressure of elementary school counselors can effectively explain the professional commitment, in which "the decision-making participation" solution release force is highest. According to the conclusions of this study mentioned above, there were some concrete suggestions made for education authorities, schools, elementary school counselors, and future studies. |
