Competency-based medical education (CBME) isincreasingly emphasized in medical education. Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) integrate multiple core competencies into practical clinical tasks and represent a crucial method of implementing CBME. Since 2020, the Taiwan Dietitian Association (TWDA) has actively promoted CBME by developingand implementing EPAs.These EPAs were implemented from December 2020 to November 2024 and proceeded in the following steps: (1) establishing dietitian-specific competency progression frameworks, (2) conducting CBME faculty training to foster shared understanding and ensure consistency in workplace assessments and coaching, and (3) employing summative assessment systems to facilitate learner-centered clinical training.
The TWDA’s efforts assist teaching hospitals in adopting EPAs, strengthening work place observation and assessment, and optimizing assessment systems for clinical nutrition practice environments. The progressive translation of learners’ competencies to real-world tasks through EPAs improves the quality and effectiveness of nutrition care.
