The purposes of this study, based on action research, are to understand how senior students under exam stress in the elementary school process and experience in mindfulness-based art stress reduction group, and how they alleviate exam stress;
The researcher found that students perceive exam stress during exams. However, the topics of small group counseling recruiting is mainly based on students’ emotional and interpersonal performance, rather than on catharsis and relief for exam stress. Therefore, this study focused on “exam stress”, through an 8 times of mindfulness-based art stress reduction group with qualitative research, text coding and analysis, to discuss the progress of mindfulness-based art stress reduction group.
The conclusions of this study are as follows: Mindfulness-based art stress reduction group expand members’ experience in using art materials and creative processes, enabling them to spontaneously interact and creatively express, and also to increase their willingness to apply art works in life. Through MBASR, one can obtain emotional relief and also enhance self-awareness and expression in the group.
This action process spanned members’ mid-term examination period. The researcher led members to experience the peace in themselves through mindfulness meditation for encouraging them to express the pressure of examination and creativity into creation; leaders and members faced the challenges in the group together, and their awareness and introspection made the group more motivating. In the future, It is hoped that this study will encourage more on-site teachers to pay attention to students’ exam stress and provide art therapists with reference to MBASR.
