This pilot study aimed to examine the relations of different coping methods of undergraduate students facing loss events, with the ending of romantic relationships and friends or family members' death as contextual background. Two hundred sixty one undergraduate students in Taiwan responded to a questionnaire survey. Results indicated that: (1) "plan and then act" and "positive explanations" enhanced death coping capability, "avoid and deny" had a negative correlation with "meaning of life"; (2) students who encountered death event would not use "avoid and deny" coping, related positively to meaning of life; breakup experiences related negatively to "avoid and deny" and "meaning of life"; (3) Canonical correlation found two canonical factors. Discussion focused on the difference between various loss events, and the role of positive thinking within. |
