This project aimed to implement business intelligence visualization tools and develop a multidimensional operational performance dashboard centered on enterprise performance management. The goal was to optimize the efficiency of resource allocation and enhance the quality of financial decision-making in medical departments. The case hospital determined that traditional medical management relies heavily on static financial reports and manual Excel-based data aggregation. This approach poses several critical operational challenges, including cumbersome data transformation, an increased risk of errors resulting from multilayered manual processing, and delayed access to decision-support information. To address these challenges, this project integrated data from an existing Microsoft SQL Server data warehouse and replaced manual workflows with an automated extract, transform, and load pipeline. Furthermore, the project defined multidimensional monitoring indicators covering revenue, labor, material, and pharmaceutical costs to establish a robust decision support system. Results: The visualization dashboard significantly enhanced the sensitivity of operational anomaly detection. For example, in the management of high-value consumables, the system identified abnormal fluctuations in material costs between May and June 2023 (an increase of 5% in the material cost proportion). By tracing the anomaly to consumable products supplied by specific vendors, the system enabled the procurement department to initiate targeted price negotiations. After the implementation of the system, the clinical department achieved substantial financial improvements: labor efficiency increased by 1.6%, the material cost-to-revenue ratio decreased by 0.5%, and the pharmaceutical cost-to-revenue ratio decreased by 1.7%. The overall operational efficiency improved by approximately 3.7%. Data visualization not only improves the efficiency and accuracy of data processing but also reduces information asymmetry between clinical and administrative departments, thereby fostering interdepartmental collaboration. By adopting a data-driven management model, healthcare organizations can transition from retrospective auditing to real-time insights, thereby achieving intelligent operational management and long-term financial sustainability. |
