An art work of ''The great sage Prince Nazha chased and killed the Dragon King Vasuki'' from the Liao Dynasty was unearthed from Chaoyang North Tower, with the theme of ''the hero slaying the dragon'', that related one of the motifs in the world's mythology system. A work of art as a sign which the elements in the picture constituted the form and content. The research method of this article adopts qualitative research and conducts multivariate analysis: The first is 'model': To collect multiple sets of mythological motif data and construct models, such as hero's adventure, dragon myth, Aura, birth myth, intergenerational conflict, resurrection, and the hero's journey. These models were constructed to perform multivariate analyses. The second is 'reliability': To track the occurrence, continuity, diffusion, transformation, heritage of mythical characters and mythical creatures (dragons and snakes). Compare the symbols of self-culture and exogenous culture, to find the reliability of the measurement. The third is 'validity': In addition to comparing mythological documents, we also track the unearthed, images, objects, symbols or totems of artifacts, etc. Compare the degree of correspondence between the mythological systems and the social systems based on their authenticity, to find the validity of the measurement. This article starts from the research about the model of ''The great sage Prince Nazha chased and killed the Dragon King Vasuki''; the myth of the hero slaying the dragon that connects the world myth system. One is through the intertextuality of the constellations, the other is through the data analysis of qualitative research, and the third is through the aesthetic analysis of artworks; so we may interpret the ''being'' of its sign that understand the experiential activities it reveals and the social value it produces. The test results show the cultural systems presented during the import and export of Liao's endogenous cultures and exogenous cultures, effectively revealing the information of mythology and social system. ''The great sage Prince Nazha chased and killed the Dragon King Vasuki'' highlights the identity sign of the Khitan nation; in terms of empirical evidence, it shows that the Liao land has its own model corresponding system. |
