This study presents a high-efficiency Mini-LED backlight module featuring a novel optical film stack architecture, intended to provide a high-brightness, high-contrast, and low-power solution for virtual-reality (VR) displays employing TFT-LCD panels. The proposed backlight configuration consists of a Mini-LED lightboard and an optimized optical film stack incorporating a beam-splitting film. By tailoring the split-angle distribution of the beam-splitting film and selecting a refractive-index pairing compatible with a pair of prism sheets arranged with orthogonal prism axes, the proportion of light undergoing total internal reflection within the prism sheets can be effectively reduced, thereby enhancing the light-utilization efficiency. Experimental results indicate that the proposed design achieves a brightness improvement of up to 17%, demonstrating its feasibility and performance advantages for next-generation high-performance VR display applications. |
