This study investigated the surface aluminizing of nickel-based Inconel 617 superalloy using NH_4Cl and AlF_3 as activators at 700℃ and 900℃ for 4 h. The effects of these treatments on the high-temperature oxidation behaviour of the alloy at 950℃ in dry air were examined. The results showed that both activators successfully facilitated the formation of an Al_3Ni_2 aluminide layer on the alloy surface, with AlF_3 demonstrating a more effective aluminizing performance. A protective α-Al_2O_3 scale was observed in all alloys aluminized, leading to a significant reduction in oxidation rate by one to two orders of magnitude, compared to the untreated Inconel 617. |
