Nickel phosphorus Teflon (Ni P/PTFE) composite coatings with different volume fraction (from 0 to 27.6 vol.%) of PTFE were deposited on medium carbon steel substrates by electroless plating. The friction and wear behavior of the composite coatings were investigated using a ball on disk wear tester under unlubricated condition, and the corrosion behavior were evaluated through polarization curves in 3.5 wt.% NaCl aqueous solution at the room temperature. The experimental results indicated that the friction coefficient of the composite coatings decreased with increasing the volume fraction of PTFE due to self lubrication and unique topological structure of PTFE. However, when the volume fraction of PTFE is before 14.4 vol.%, the wear rate of the composite coatings showed a steadily decreasing trend with increasing volume fraction of PTFE. Comprehensive conclusion, the PTFE volume fraction of 14.4 vol.% has the best tribological properties and still maintains excellent corrosion resistance. |
