A temper rolling process is an essential step to eliminate the yield point during forming and to adjust the surface quality of cold rolled (CR) steels, using wet rolling chemicals before a further treatment with anti-rust oil. In this article, tests and the respective results on newly developed temper rolling chemicals, RL1B and RL1C, formulated with surfactants, wetting agents, and antirust and anti-wear additives to improve the rolling performance are described. After rolling tests in the laboratory and in a temper mill with the new rolling chemicals RL1B and RL1C, it was found that rolling lubricity was significantly improved by 20% to 40% and the cleanness of the CR steel surface was increased by 10%. Another field test at one of the China Steel Corporation’s temper mills in 2007 showed that the lubricity of the working roller was increased by more than 20% and the repair frequency was decreased by 50%. In addition, based on the improvement in the rolling chemicals the anti-oil stain and anti-rust performance of CR steel coils during storage periods would be greatly enhanced from less than 6 months to over one year. |
