In this study, a series of succinic acid n-alkylamide were synthesized and used as inhibitors. The coating can be applied by spraying, brushing or dipping for tentative protection of metallic articles for further processing or painting. Coating solutions were prepared by dissolving various amounts of succinic acid n-alkylamide within the range of 3-15 wt% in isopropanol. We used the Ferroxyl Test to examine the defects of various coatings in 1020 carbon steel rapidly. Furthermore, the corrosion test exposed the 1020 carbon steel to an acetic acid containing environment at 25℃, 95% RH. Experimental results showed that the corrosion protection efficiency of the coated steel was dependent on the concentration of the coating solution and the treatment method. On the other hand, the performance of the coating such as succinic acid n-octylamide (SAOA) and succinic acid n-decylamide (SADA) could be changed by adding some chemicals. The results showed that the best corrosion protection of the coatings of SAOA or SADA was obtained by adding small amounts of oleic acid. The anti-corrosion performance was related to the morphology of the coatings examined by SEM or electrical image enlarging system. |
