The low alloy steel ASTM A387 was used for the test. Specimens, cathodically charged or uncharged, were tensile tested in the presence of a magnetic field at a range of 0-0.16 tesla. The mechanical properties were measured. It was found that the U YP (upper yield point) and Δσ(yield drop) for charged specimens were substantially reduced in the magnetic field, whereas the variations of U YP and Δσ were relatively small for uncharged specimens. The scatter of Δσ for charged specimens decreased as the magnetic field increased. |
