In high temperature environments, metals and alloys usually form a protective scale layer. However, at high temperature and during thermal cycling, the growth stress and thermal stress are developed in the scale and affect the properties of the scale and the substrate metal. In order to know how to keep the protective property of the scale on the substrate metal, therefore, this review paper introduces the mechanisms of generation and relief of these stresses and also detailedly describes the effect of specimen geometry on these mechanisms. |
