Objectives. Women are at higher risk of anxiety and depression. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between oral health and anxiety and depression in women. Methods. This study adopted a cross-sectional study design. The study area was Puzi City, Chiayi County. The subjects were female residents aged≧20 years. The Oral Health Assessment Tool (OHAT), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) were used to analyze the relationship between oral health and anxiety and depression symptoms by logistic regression. Results. After adjusting for education level and number of comorbidities, the results showed that oral health was associated with anxiety and depression. An increase in OHAT scores was significantly associated with anxiety and depression manifestations [Odds Ratio (OR) were 1.977 (95% CI: 1.287-3.036) and 1.420 (95% CI: 1.008-2.000)]. On the other hand,an increase in the number of comorbidities was also significantly associated with anxiety and depression manifestations [ORs were 1.760 (95% CI: 1.169-2.650) and 1.685 (95% CI:1.156-2.455) respectively]. Conclusion. Oral health may be associated with anxiety and depression. |
