Vitamin B12 deficiency presents with a wide range of clinical manifestations, most of which are nonspecific. For high-risk populations, long-term follow-up and appropriate vitamin B12 supplementation can improve patients' quality of life. We report the case of a 66-year-old male with a history of gastric cancer and total gastrectomy who presented to the family medicine outpatient department with dysgeusia. Examination revealed flattened papillae and erythematous patches on partial areas of the dorsal tongue surface. Upon evaluation, he was diagnosed with atrophic glossitis caused by vitamin B12 deficiency. After vitamin B12 supplementation, his clinical symptoms improved significantly. We hope this can will help heighten clinicians’diagnostic sensitivity to vitamin B12 deficiency in high-risk populations. |
