祝允明〈七悲文〉中的吳中士不遇書寫

Wu-Region Writing of the Unrecognized Scholar in Zhu Yunming’s“Seven Laments”

在祝允明的創作中，〈七悲文〉具有鮮明自況色彩；然而，若僅從晚年失意來理解此文，仍不足以說明其篇章結構與主旨遞進所表徵的思想層次。本文將其置於祝允明久困春官、正德九年前後棄舉赴選的生命關節中重新考察。以此指出，〈七悲文〉之「悲」不在爵貨得失，而是藉悲道、悲志、悲學、悲時命、悲余先、悲黨與悲文章等七目，展開祝允明對科舉價值、先德承繼、同道歸屬與文章傳統的詰問與反思。此一書寫實踐既承接騷體餘緒中的發憤抒情傳統，又在「余何歸乎」的追問中，將憂憤轉向文章歸處與自身位置的重新安置。
由此可見，〈七悲文〉不僅是理解祝允明棄舉赴選心境的重要文本，也呈現吳中士人在科舉遲滯下，如何透過地方文藝資源與文章書寫維持自我價值，繼而開展明代士不遇書寫的別樣安頓路徑。

In Zhu Yunming’s works, Qibei wen bears a pronounced autobiographical character. However, to read the text merely as an expression of late-life frustration is insufficient to explain the ideological depth manifested in its structure and thematic progression. This article reexamines Qibei wen by situating it at a critical juncture in Zhu Yunming’s life: his prolonged failure in the metropolitan examinations and his eventual abandonment of further examination attempts around the ninth year of the Zhengde reign, when he turned instead to official selection. On this basis, this article argues that the“grief”in Qibei wen does not lie in the loss of rank or wealth. Rather, through its seven sections—grieving for the Way, aspiration, learning, fate and timing, forebears, companions, and writings—the text unfolds Zhu Yunming’s questioning and reflection on the value of the civil examinations, the inheritance of ancestral virtue, the sense of belonging among like-minded companions, and the literary tradition. This practice of writing both draws on the legacy of sao-style impassioned lyric expression and, through the question“Where shall I return?”, transforms grief and indignation into a search for literary refuge and a repositioning of the self.
Accordingly, Qibei wen is not only an important text for understanding Zhu Yunming’s state of mind when he abandoned the examinations and turned to official selection; it also reveals how Wu-region literati, under the prolonged stagnation of the examination system, sustained their sense of self-worth through local literary resources and literary writing, thereby opening another path of settlement within the tradition of Ming-dynasty writings on the unrecognized scholar.
