As essential frontline healthcare workers, nurses frequently perform repetitive bending and heavy loading that can lead to chronic musculoskeletal injuries, with research showing that 32.2% of nurses are eventually unable to perform their duties due to such cumulative damage. An investigation into these occupational hazards revealed that 90.6% of nurses experienced back pain over the past year, driven by prolonged standing, improper posture, a lack of ergonomic awareness, and the manual handling of heavy equipment without assistive devices. To mitigate these risks, a comprehensive wellness initiative was launched, featuring educational training on proper turning techniques, the establishment of a dedicated stress relief station, and the introduction of patient turning slide sheets, transport carts, and stretching programs. Following these interventions, the incidence of staff back pain dropped significantly from 90.6% to 28.1%, successfully achieving the project goal of reducing occupational injury and ensuring that nursing staff maintain a high quality of life while providing optimal patient care. |
