New taxonomic data for the genus Carex (Cyperaceae) in Taiwan are presented based on field and herbarium investigations. Five new species, C. chamaecyparicola, C. hsinchuensis, C. leongii, C. orthorhyncha and C. pseudorhynchachaenium, and two reinstated species, C. matsudae and C. mokkwaensis, are proposed, accompanied by comprehensive morphological descriptions and color plates. The taxonomic affinities, systematic placements, chorology and ecology of these species are also briefly discussed. |
