A Journey to the PHILIPPINES: A Preliminary Exploration of Nursing Career Empowerment

菲律賓是距離台灣最近的東南亞國協國家，本校師生首次與菲律賓聖母無染原罪大學進行學術交流，這趟的海外學習之旅，不僅增進學生們的英文會話表達信心與跨文化體驗，更珍貴的是體會到在資源有限的情況下，菲律賓人們的樂觀與溫暖。
這段歷程建構學生們學習尊重與包容跨文化的軟實力，提升學生在護理職場所需的「溝通力」、「適應力」、「專業力」及「實踐力」，獲得個人財務規劃的實作經驗，與投身護理專業領域的決心，也對未來職涯發展有更多的想像與目標。
菲律賓擁有的多元種族文化與語言，為學習跨文化護理提供了一片沃土，這是值得關注與肯定的學習場所。學生們以開放的心胸、尊重與包容的態度，與不同文化背景的當地菲律賓人進行適切的關懷與交流，這些皆有助於為護理職涯做準備的學習歷程，可做為台灣其他學生前往菲律賓進行海外跨文化學習時的參考。

The Philippines is the closest ASEAN country to Taiwan. For the first time, our faculty and students participated in an overseas academic exchange program with the University of the Immaculate Conception in the Philippines. This overseas learning journey not only enhanced the students' confidence in English communication and transcultural experiences, but more importantly, allowed them to appreciate the optimism and warmth of the Filipino people.
This experience helped students develop the soft skills in respecting and embracing diverse cultures. It also enhanced essential abilities needed in the nursing profession, including communication skills, adaptability, professional knowledge, and practical ability. Through this journey, students gained handson experience in personal financial planning, strengthened their commitment to the nursing profession, and developed a clearer vision and goals for their future careers.
The Philippines, with its rich diversity of ethnic cultures and languages, offers a fertile learning environment for transcultural nursing. It is a valuable and commendable place for learning. With open minds and respectful, inclusive attitudes, the students engaged in meaningful care and interaction with local Filipinos from various cultural backgrounds. These experiences greatly contribute to their preparation for a nursing career and can serve as a useful reference for other Taiwanese students planning to undertake transcultural learning in the Philippine.
