Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology is widely applied in the field of football because it provides estimates of the external load experienced by players. Using such technology during training and matches not only helps understand the physical demands of different positions but also monitors the external load of various roles within the team. The information monitored by GPS can assist in adjusting training loads specific to certain positions. Methods: This article searched the PubMed database for studies published between 2014 and 2024, using English keywords such as GPS, Association Football, Training Load, Sport Performance, and Load Monitoring. A literature review approach was adopted to explore the application of GPS in monitoring the training load of football players. Conclusion: GPS technology has demonstrated high reliability and effectiveness in tracking external load; however, there are still some limitations in assessing internal load. Therefore, coaches and researchers must integrate multiple technical means, considering individual differences among players, to formulate more precise and personalized training plans to achieve optimal training outcomes and match performance. |
