The“Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media”(YCAM) is one of Japan’s successful cases of regional revitalization under the name of“art.”YCAM’s basic concept is“creating together, learning together”with local people and experts from various fields. YCAM explores how media technology can be integrated into daily life from multiple perspectives and examines the potential of information as a cultural foundation. Furthermore, through a focus on“research and development experiments,”“artistic expression,”“education,”and“community,”YCAM contributes to cultivating a new generation of creative talents in the place. Field studies and in-depth interviews with YCAM’s Artistic Director Daiya Aida and Producer Akiko Takeshita were conducted to analyze the practical strategies behind“regional revitalization under the name of art.”This study offers a detailed analysis of YCAM’s success by incorporating media and art as a means of regional revitalization. |
