Recently released by Sony PlayStation Publishing LLC, the first-person shooter Concord features numerous DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) elements in its character designs, resulting in player backlash and declining engagement. This study employs Kansei Engineering to analyze how politically correct character designs influence gamers' perceptions. After collecting feedback from 40 participants, we created 10 politically correct character samples for comparison with existing characters. An experiment with 111 participant s revealed a negative correlation between a character's political correctness and player support, with male and older gamers showing heightened sensitivity. Desktop users preferred slender characters, while handheld gamers favored androgynous, diverse-gender designs. |
