COVER Corporation, led by CEO Motoaki Tanigo, aims to develop hololive into an idol group akin to AKB48. While primarily seen as entertainers, hololive's large-scale festivals and concerts have cemented their “idol” identity. This study explores the cultural and historical significance of virtual idols, integrating “gap moe” (ギャップ萌え) and “mono no aware” to examine their unique characteristics. Analyzing hololive's evolution through festival footage, streams, and fan memes, it highlights how they blend real-life elements, virtual personas, and performances to engage audiences.
