Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology is advancing at a remarkable pace, with many potential applications still being explored. UAVs offer the advantages of high mobility and a broad range of view capture, enabling them to overcome geographical barriers, swiftly reach accident scenes, and monitor the development of traffic incidents as well as the current traffic flow. This research aims to examine the role that UAVs can play in the practical application of Traffic Incident Management (TIM), specifically focusing on freeways. We propose a workflow for using UAVs in the observation and surveillance of traffic incidents and conduct field surveys to explore the effectiveness of UAV videos and the impact of emergency management actions on the traffic flow at accident sites. This information can serve as a reference for the methodology of freeway traffic accident management operations. |
