Borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) are rare epithelial neoplasms that pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to their limited incidence and features that overlap with malignant ovarian cancers. This report highlights two rare cases of mucinous borderline ovarian tumors in elderly women, highlighting the complexity of evaluating pelvic masses in this demographic. The patients, a 64-year-old woman (G5P4SA1) and a 72-year-old woman (G9P7A2), presented with nonspecific symptoms including abdominal fullness, early satiety, and urinary frequency. Clinical assessments revealed elevated serum cancer antigen 125 (CA-125) levels, and imaging modalities suggested complex ovarian neoplasms. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of mucinous borderline ovarian tumors. Given the potential risk of recurrence and the diagnostic uncertainty of complex masses in the elderly, both patients successfully underwent bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. They were discharged in stable condition and remain under outpatient surveillance. These cases underscore the importance of a multidisciplinary approach combining advanced imaging and biomarkers to guide the management of complex pelvic lesions in the geriatric population. |
