This paper traces the traditional Chinese educational thoughts on which the current disciplinary system of universities in Taiwan is originated and discusses some relevant student attitudes to identify the major university disciplinary problems. The findings of an empirical research are cited as evidence to support the argument that most controversial disciplinary issues result from students' resistance to the ''arbitrary will'' of the authorities in the administrative system. The authors assert that the best way to resolve these issues is to develop a more rational disciplinary procedure so as to incorporate wills from all those to be involved in determining a disciplinary measure or action in accordance with universal principles. |
