The purpose of this study is to recognize the different characteristics unique to each of five types of sex offenders—rapists, child molesters, gang rapists, incest offenders and sex-harassers. The data was gathered through a questionnaire developed by the researchers: ''High Risk Factor Inventory''. 609 convicted sex offenders who were incarcerated in prisons in the North and the South of Taiwan filled out the questionnaire. The data was analyzed using X2, Wilcoxon Scores and logistic regression analysis. The results showed that: Rapist are characterized by their pattern of violence when committing their crime. Child molesters tend to start committing their crime early in life. For gang rapists, the primary purpose of committing the crime is not for sex, but for group identity. Incest offenders, surrounded by many marital troubles. Sex-harassers, stated that they experienced sexual dysfunction and lack of social skills. Suggestions are made for intervention strategies. |
